Albury
District & Border (Wodonga) Week of Golf 5/10/09 to 9/10/09
Report by Alan
Neems - Treasurer
Wodonga Country
Club hosted this Week of Golf under a new team headed by Max Mueller
(tournament director) and Richard Humphrey (president group 32) and what an
enthusiastic team this was as you will see from the following.
Registration was
held on Sunday 4/10/09 and was well attended, Golflink numbers and handicaps
were reaffirmed, but proof of Veteran Membership was not requested. Welcome
gift bags were issued containing, drink bottle, golf ball, pen and visitor
guide then a sausage sizzle was conducted with 2nd helpings freely
available. The mayor of Wodonga Mark Byatt
also attended and gave a very warm welcome to all golfers attending the
week.
Temporary SS &
A club membership was offered and a golfer’s special lunch was available every
day for $7.
Warren Barkley starts the putting comp!
ManyClubs were represented in the average daily
attendance of 110 players.
The course was in
fabulous condition (still with difficult sand in some bunkers) and many thanks
go to the ground staff for preparing the course each day. Some great scores
came in, one lady from Wodonga on a 5 handicap scoring 42 pts, following up
with 38 pts on Thursday (Well played Diane Wolfe)
We played daily
events - 3 days of individual stableford and Friday as a 4 BBB, the ball comp
and NTP were presented each day at 3.00pm, leaving the daily winners trophies
for the dinner night.
The planned
Wednesday bus tour did not get enough starters and had to be cancelled.
Alan Neems, ladies winner Lorraine Cram, Lorna Hillier 3rd.
Presentation
dinner was held at SS & A Club Albury, in auditorium and was attended by
about 72 people, a singer with music entertained us quietly and a few dancers
took to the floor.
Warren Barkley -
President of NE Victorian Veterans arranged a slide show of over 100 photos he
had discreetly taken of players over the week. Warren also ran a putting competition, table
by table, between courses putting with your opposite hand, Thanks Warren, it
took a lot of your time and was very entertaining.
The meal itself was
3 courses, soup, main and desert with alternate servings, the servings were
generous, well presented, very tasty and served quickly by the waitresses.
Congratulations SS & A Club.
Trophies were
awarded daily - 3 divisions for men and 2 divisions for ladies, with Winner,
Runner-up and Third place in all grades. This was made possible by the
generosity of the 18 sponsors plus the major sponsor Alatalo Bros. Builders
& Developers who took naming right sponsorship. With Prizes limited to one
per winner, there was a good cross section of trophy winners.

Thank you to all
sponsors and the Wodonga team for securing their sponsorships.
I recommend this
week to all veteran golfers, please support this enthusiastic team from Wodonga
Country Club in 2010 and entry forms will hopefully be available on our website
for travellers who may not be home for their mailed invitation.
