Tenterfield District 2011
The week began with a welcome
dinner on Sunday night, which was well attended and gave an opportunity to
spell out some administrative matters relating to the tournament.
The Monday morning field started
under threatening skies, but the weather held off until the morning field had
finished. Not so for the afternoon, the weather closed in and players had a
very cold, wet and windy afternoon with some heavy showers.
Many players cancelled that round
and some cancelled for the week, however some good scores were recorded despite
the conditions.
Tuesday saw the NSWVGA Shield
event, run as a Par event. Weather conditions were somewhat better, but still
cold overcast and windy. A good field contested the Shield event for Men and
again some very good scores were recorded. The Ladies event, sponsored by NSWVGA, saw
another good field with some good scores, in the Stableford event. A dinner on
Tuesday night was well patronised, and enjoyed by all who attended
Thursday and Friday event was the
Tenterfield Challenge 4 BBB Mixed with a full field. In conjunction, but
separate was a Singles Event for those not involved in the Mixed . Each day saw
an 18 hole event for the Mixed and 18 hole event for Singles. Thankfully the
weather improved but was still cold and mostly overcast, with occasional sunny
breaks. .
The Presentation dinner on Friday
night saw a full dining room with approximately 135 players and partners. It
proved to be a very sociable evening and from all reports, enjoyed by all
A Final Note.
As Tournament Director, I must
congratulate the players in the manner in which they responded to my request to
keep the field moving, and prevent any incidents of slow play. During the 4
days of play, there was not a hold-up of any significance. Their co-operation
in this matter was greatly appreciated.
I must end by paying tribute to
the Green Staff, who presented the course in such wonderful condition, which in
no small way assisted in the flow of play. Many players commented favourably on
the great conditions.
