About Us

Welcome to all visitors and Veteran Golfers from the Executive of the NSW Veteran Golfers Association.  We are glad you called in to check out our site, whether you are wandering around Australia or somewhere else in the world.

The information contained within this website is relative to ALL veteran golfers, from NSW, ACT or anywhere else in Australia.  Once you are aged 55 or over you are eligible to play with the 'Vets', the rules are simple and the cost is almost irrelevant, $10 to join and annual fees ranging from $5 to $25 per annum thereafter within NSW.

To become a member you must be a member of a golf club which is affiliated with the AGU and you must have a club handicap, thats all!  To actually join up all you need to do is find out when and where the next 'vets golf day' is being held and turn up.

Just complete an application form, pay $10 and you are in for the year.  The fee is $10 per year thereafter, most other groups are around the same.  We have over 14,000 members in NSW and there are 36 group zones, many of which have 10 or 15 smaller groups within each zone.  Veteran golf is growing and you can be assured of a great day out wherever you decide to play. You meet all sorts of people, strange characters, brilliant golfers, burglars, academics, businessmen and others from all stations in life, the 19th hole conversation is never dull.

A very large number of our veteran groups have access to some of the best golf courses in Australia, and you get to play on any, or all of these courses, at our regular regional veteran golf days, at very reasonable rates.

We conduct 46 Annual Weeks of Golf (WOG) throughout NSW each year (see our WOG page for a listing). One of the enormous benefits of developing our own web site is that we have control over what it contains, important dates or events, and when we feel like it we can include something really relevant to particular areas of interest.  One or more of the characters depicted from time to time will bring back fond memories for someone out there for sure.  I believe this site will generate enormous interest from the veteran golfing community once we are 'out there', new friendships will be forged over time and old ones will be renewed.  Isn't that what golf is supposed to be about, enjoying yourself and keeping yourself active.

Perhaps some of us who stick within our own regions might be tempted to venture a little bit further to another course, meet new people and maybe even have a go at the sand greens somewhere.  Sand greens and barren dirt fairways to some is the only form of golf available in many areas of the wide brown land, but the golfers are all the same.  For first timers it can be a culture shock, by the time you have finished your round not only will you make new friends at the 19th, you will have gained enormous respect for venturing out and 'having a go'.  Not for spending a few dollars, your mere presence and the fact you bothered to stop off for a round of golf is all it takes.

You can make a difference just by being there!

There are many husband and wife teams of dedicated golfers who travel almost continuously, 'on the tour'. These golfing nomads wander backwards and forwards across NSW throughout the year, generally returning home during the warmer months. If you are really keen like some are, they simply go interstate to a warmer place.  You can get to know these wonderful people, find out all about them and the exciting golfing events generated by 'the vets'.

The vast majority of our veteran groups have access to some of the finest golf courses in Australia. Of course prices will vary from region to region and course to course, regardless where you are.  However, our mates have arranged dozens of regular golfing tournaments throughout NSW every week of the year, hopefully some will suit both you and our visitors from all parts of the globe.  Our interstate veteran golfing counterparts have done likewise.

Our primary goal is to 'promote golf for our veteran community'.

The NSWVGA Executive meet at Bankstown Golf Club bi-monthly, or as special major issues arise, to discuss issues, develop policy and organise our yearly and special event schedule.  Administrative issues take precedence at these meetings, dealing with these matters is a responsible job that is not for the faint hearted as there is usually a mountain of paperwork to get through.  The paperwork usually consists of;

  • Applications from golfing groups wanting to start a new veteran group;
  • Groups who want more information as the word about verteran golf spreads;
  • Applications to conduct a special event or another week of golf;
  • Requests for assistance (running/organising events, managing groups);
  • Sponsors, etc.

The group statewide must be controlled as en entity, we own the name, we own the logo (design under slight review), as such we endeavour to ensure there are 'minimal' clashes in our WOG & Special Event calendar.

As this site gets better organised we will endeavour to place more information here to keep the membership fully up to date through the Newsletter and plain old email.  Remember whenever we add, edit or update information here that revised information is immediately, or in some cases after a few hours, available across the world.

Want to know more, well take your time and have a steady browse thoughout this site, we are still putting the web site together so we can keep our members informed.  This website  can be a vital resource for visiting veteran golfers from interstate and overseas.  You are now able to download our newsletter in PDF format, to read at your leisure or print out a copy to give to many veterans still deciding about the internet .
