BUCKETTS WAY WEEK OF GOLF MAY 26-30, 2008-07-17

80 players representing 28 clubsattended this week of golf

The golf course at Gloucester was in excellent condition, a credit to the only greenkeeper Brian and a happy band of voluntary helpers. Weather was good except for a couple of showers near the end of play. However most players were able to avoid the worst of the rain.

This is a unique tournament, a shot-gun start on a nine hole course to allow players to finish at more or less the same time. Some novelty events, long drive, NTP's and a chipping competition were included to add to the more formal competition. At the end of play each day all players gathered in the clubhouse for the presentation of the day's novelty events, to partake in their choice of refreshments and to take part in Denver Webb's monster raffle with large number of prizes (all donated by local business houses). This makes this one of the most sociable golf events.

Bill Murray assisted by his wife must be congratulated on his effort in putting this week together and keeping it working. To all those who have contributed, Derek Bardwell (capt), Peter McIntyre (treas.), the spotters around the course, congratulations on well run tournament.

A special thanks to the ladies and members who manned the lunch tent on top of the hill overlooking the course. Much appreciated by everyone.

The presentation dinner was an excellent evening. The meal, prepared by the club caterer was very enjoyable. Jim Dunn, the MC for the evening introduced the Lady Mayor, Julie Lyford, and other speakers. The large number of prize presentation was dealt with efficiently.
