______________________________________________________________
The Tournament commenced with the Registration Day on Sunday 20th July,
all but a few registered, as the Tournament Director I addressed as many
of the competitors as possible with the usual things that apply with
Golfing Tournament, Local Rules, Slow Play, etc.
Monday at Tuncurry, the course in Great condition for the middle of
Winter, Weather was fine a fair South Wester increased as the day went
on, 191 started on a two tee start, Marshalling was kept busy as for
that many number on limited daylight hours was a great result, a good
time was had by all.
Tuesday, Taree, with the course a bit heavy underfoot from the heavy
rains during June, the evaporation rate is not great, but in all the
course was not to bad. Play was slow, Marshalling was difficult in the
afternoon as no cart was available, both men and women only just made it
in prior to dark, again 191 starters did finish on the day, again the
players take it in their stride and enjoyed themselves.
Thursday the weather turned to very ordinary, as we had always
predicted, Rain, rain and more rain. I thought the management at
Talwoods I thought we extremely genereous even to let us on the course
let alone allowing Carts on.I was quite prepared if carts were not
allowed, I would have called the day off. But in true style, out the
mighty men and women go, we had 154 start and finish, all I can say is
they were spartans, as I said before they all came off with a sort of
smile and reckoned it was all a lot of fun.
Friday the prediction was for showers but nobody tells the weather
bureau how long the showers go for, After Tallwoods and arriving at
Forster as usual at 6am a quick word with the Pro Nick and Greens staff,
alls well to play with carts. Apparantly Forster did not receive as
much rain as Tallwoods did the previous day, 160 odd played and
completed the day and as always the players took it in their stride.
Apart from the weather for the last two days the tournament went very
well,, as far as the administration went what Peter MILLER cant do on a
data base especially in regards to the running of a golf tournament is
not worth knowing.
For all the rest of the committee, volunteers and any other helper,
these sort of weeks just cant run, I am very fortunate to have a great
committee.
This year we have secured a major sponsor in AEVUM Ltd, they own
retirement resorts, all over the country they also own Golden Ponds
Retirement Resort on Cape Hawke Drive Forster, we also secured associate
sponsors along the way, it makes for us to keep the cost down as much as
possible and give out worthwhile prizes. As we did last year, apart
from the two major prizes which were for the 54 hole mens event a
weekend for two, including breakfast and two games of golf at Tallwoods,
well worth winning, for the women a week in Akuna Apartments in
Forster, the rest of the Prizes are Woolworth Vouchers ranging from $150
down to $40. Total prize pool being well in excess of $3,000.
Presentation night was also a great success, with the girls taking over
the decoration of the venue for the first time, a very colourful theme,
234 at the dinner and a super time was had by all.
All in all a great weekof golf, all the golf courses were presented in
pristine condition especially considering we are in the middle of
winter, all the ground staff were congratulated
