What a great week played on two courses that were very dry but well presented in this drought time. 161 players from 59 clubs played some time during the week with daily fields averaging between 130 and 140. 110 players attended the three course presentation dinner on the Friday night at Narrandera Golf Club featured by one of the best trophy displays imaginable. The distribution of these great trophies followed NSWVGA guidelines.

The two club professionals Jason Nimmo (Leeton) and Greg Collins (Narrandera), both eager personable young men, did an outstanding job in every phase of the administration of the tournament. Every competitor was made feel most welcome by the boys who in return stated that they enjoyed working with veteran golfers because of the positive communication between both parties.

Competition was keen and scoring was very good, especially at Narrandera despite sandy conditions and sloping greens. The first round of the 54 holes single event was played on Monday at Leeton, followed by the fourball at Leeton on the Tuesday. The last two rounds of the singles event were played at Narrandera on the Thursday and Friday with the NSWVGA vouchers played for on Thursday. Weather conditions were excellent and sausage sandwiches were available at half time at all venues. The only really cold day was the lay day on the Wednesday. In all a most enjoyable week in which the players supported both clubs very well.

Phil won the major men’s trophy because of his best overall score. He won a wonderful monogrammed golf bag and a helicopter flight over Leeton.

Women: Division 1: Jan McGilvray (Narrandera) 109

Division 2: Ann Ritchie (St. Georges Basin) 127

Ann therefore won the monogrammed bag for the women and the helicopter flight over Leeton.
