PRESENTATION DINNER:Excellent Meal (2 courses) served at the SS&A Club in Albury in private dining room. Good attendance considering low player numbers.
2009: Initially the Directors had decided that 2008 would be the last Week of Golf, due too low attendance numbers – second year in a row. But, some Wodonga golf committee are prepared to host 2009 and will actively promote the week to get player numbers up. Ron O’Connell retired as tournament director and was thanked for his efforts over the past 3 years.
I think the main problem for numbers is that in 2006(their 1st year) the week was played late November following the Young Cherry festival and players experienced 38-40 degree temperatures, the heat is now not a problem as the tournament is held early October. Some problems were experienced with husband and wife tee times too far apart.
I will communicate with Max Mueller (possible new tournament director) topoint out my observations of short comings. And to offer some ideas to include in the entry form and invitation.
SUMMARY :A good tournament that fits neatly in the programme for travellers and played on a good and very interesting course with enthusiastic support from local players. This week of golf deserves to survive and I recommend that veteran golfers include it in their 2009 calendar.
