The annual Vets' Shoalhaven Week of Golf tees off today.
More than 50 clubs from across NSW and Victoria are gathering to compete over the week
for more than $4000 in prizemoney. Due to the inclement weather and saturation of the
respective courses, some games have been rescheduled.
Originally three single stableford events for members and ladies were to be held at
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Worrigee Links course, Nowra and St Georges Basin courses
with extended tee times to allow morning or afternoon rounds, to alleviate delays.
Day one will now be staged at the Nowra course with a 36-hole tournament, and weather
permitting day two will be at Worrigee tomorrow. The NSW Veteran Golfers Association Trophy
event will make up day two tomorrow, and a 36-hole event at St Georges Basin on day three.
Following the tournaments a day of rest and relaxation will be held on Thursday with a picnic
at Sussex Inlet followed by a presentation dinner and entertainment at the Nowra Golf Club
in the evening. On the final day golfers will return to the greens when Shoalhaven Heads Golf
Club hosts the 15-hole 4BBB medley event.
Competition secretary John Buttle said despite the unfavourable conditions last week, the event
is shaping up well. “It’s always a great week and despite the weather it is looking like a huge
week of competition,” he said.
“Major sponsors, Saunders of Ulladulla, East Coast Carts and Jervis Bay Apartments, have
provided novelty prizes in the nearest to the pin and ball competitions, which will be up for grabs
for both ladies and members each day.”
