Blue Mountains 26th Annual Week of Golf

1 Mar 2008

Blue Mountains
NSWVGA Ladies Champion 2008

Trish George (Charlestown) 41 pts

Despite camping alongside each other all week, and, that we were good friends
I did not get a photo of either George this year.

Marie McNeil and Margaret Douglas (Moruya) relaxing at the presentation dinner
at Leura Golf Club during the Blue Mountains event - bit wet, bit foggy, but we
also had four fabulous days at Blackheath, Leura, Katoomba and Wentworth Falls.

We are on the improve with 154 Veteran golfers taking part in our 26th Annual Week of Golf, they travelled
from Victoria, ACT and Queensland for this years event, 56 individual clubs participating and over 40 new players.
From Marysville in Victoria, Broken Hill in the west and Cairns in the far north of Queensland we had the happiest
group of 'vets' one could wish for and to everyone's delight we got more good rain, unfortunately on Thursday
at Leura the heavens really opened up and we had to call the event off about 90 minutes after the initial tee-off.

Naturally the golfers were extremely disappointed, but not one complaint and many hung around until later
in the day when they could at least play a few more holes, with one or two groups actually completing the full
eighteen holes. Dense fog delayed the hit-off at Blackheath on Monday but we eventually got under way about
55 minutes late and the 'almost full' field had anothe enjoyable day at beautiful Blackheath. Tom Clifford (Gordonvale)
and Edith Jones (Moruya) blitzed the field with 50 points and to make this result even more interesting I had asked
Tom if he would like to partner a lady, new to the mountains event from Moruya, and he agreed without hesitation.ur 4th
Our 4th Annual Dinner at Leura Golf Club was another great success, excellent meal  provided by  Three
Brothers Catering and Kerry's crew. Leura Club Captain 'Paul' provided some light entertainment with his
guitar, and, the speeches were kept to a minimum. Unfortunately because of
the weather the NSWVGA
event reverted to Tuesdays play and Barry Harris (Leonay) was our worthy winner, with a very surprised
Trish George (Charlestown) taking out the ladies event.

Weekly Wanted list being updated gradually.
