Grafton Veterans
What a busy week! Monday saw our annual trip to Bonville take place, and 87 players from Grafton and Yamba had a very enjoyable day on this championship course, at a very reasonable rate. Col McLachlan may not have enjoyed losing nine balls, but he won the prize donated by Bruce Wicks for this feat. Many others lost balls as well, but Cyril Coombes had divine assistance when his ball dropped into a water hole then somehow jumped out to land near the green!

Eve Macpherson also had some help on the 18th hole when her wayward ball bounced off a tree to land on the green and then score a birdie. Eve compounded that by winning the ladies section of the day with 28points, followed closely by Peg James and Shez Myer on 27points.
The winner for the gents playing was Gavan Smith, with 36 points, with first runner up John Kliendienst. Other prizes were awarded for the Bradman trophy, nearest the pins, and other runner up awards
Although a hard course, many are already talking about how they will handle it next year, and special thanks was given to our sponsor for the day, Oz Green Products.
Third time lucky for our Hair by Colour Café sponsored Season Opener, player yesterday. Results are in another column, but the day was totally enjoyed by all players.

Last week we played a very special competition, that being the Neil Farrington Shield. Neil was a life member of the club, and a good bloke, so the winner, Dek Pabian was delighted to have his name added to the trophy. Mrs Pam Farrington was on hand to present the shield, and a sizable group stayed on for the presentation as a mark of respect for a great mate.
We are still looking for a few more players for the Yamba Grafton Challenge, to be played at Yamba next Monday. Please nominate ASAP as we need to match up names to make the challenge workable. A bus will be provided if the numbers prove worthwhile.
Interesting to note that most of the 120 entries received for our Winter Golf Festival in May are from new players to Grafton. A lot of regulars are still to nominate, so locals please enter soon or you will miss out on a great week of golf.
Lastly, from “The revised rules of golf for senior golfers”
‘If a ball putted close enough to the hole to be blown in, then a senior golfer should be allowed to do this without penalty’.
