Profile- RICHARD FARRANT Group Secretary

Dick Farrant was born in Perth W A but moved to Sydney aged about 3 where he grew up in Randwick (Go the Rabbitohs says Dick), and started playing golf when 16. Dick studied teaching and was first posted to Bingara where for four years he played golf, football, tennis and refereed National basketball when it started in town. (When did he do any teaching I hear you cry?) Transferring to Wauchope he added surfing and basketball to his sports and also golf administration, being Secretary of Wauchope Golf Club then Director and Vice President as the Club progressed to Wauchope Country Golf and Bowling Club.

After 12 years at Wauchope Dick was promoted to Head Teacher Mathematics and took a position at Bowral High in the Southern Highlands where he joined Bowral Country Club and spent the next 10 years in golf administration as a Director and 8 years as Club Captain - a very time consuming position.

After 14 years Dick transferred to Albion Park High as residing on the south coast was attractive. But after 4 years health problems brought on retirement so Dick was now able to tutor maths, play golf and reduce his handicap to 7.

At this time Dick became a director of Kiama Golf Club and then President and has overseen clubhouse refurbishment, car park construction, course beautification and increased corporate marketing as well as weathering a turbulent period of overtures to sell Kiama Golf Course

Also along the way Dick found time to gain a wife Marie, and two children and his golf widow said "If you do not give up some Saturday/Sunday golf your children will grow up and you will hardly know them"! So Dick taught his son to play golf and play junior pennants on Sundays so Marie taught her daughter to shop! When Dick was offered the position of Secretary for NSWVGA seven years ago, he didn't hesitate and recently has applied himself to computer technology and website operations as the addociation administration moves into the 21st century. Although Dick's time is somewhat curtailed by his administrative duties he still manages to play in numerous veteran tournaments accompanied by Marie who happens to be an avid golfer herself. The NSWVGA is exceptionally fortunate to have such a dedicated and capable administrator.
