PROFILE
Alan Neems
I am pleased to have joined the Executive of NSW Veteran Golf and would like to provide some background information about myself so that you, our members, will know a little about me.
I was born in England in 1943 and moved to Australia in 1945 with my English Mum and Aussie Dad, we stayed at Hurstville living with my grandmother until our house was built at Riverwood where I grew up with my 3 brothers, Geoffrey, Barry and Trevor. I attended East Hills Boys High School, leaving after receiving my Leaving Certificate in about 1960.
After getting married we lived in Gymea for about 28 years moving to Sussex Inlet in 1997 and I retired from a career mainly of commercial accounting a few years later. Briefly my employment history is as follows: Sherlock & Sinden (Chartered Accountants) 12 years, Saywell Imports 18 years (this company had Crown Corning as an owner for 5 years before they resold the business) Sanford Couriers 5 years and finally Ace Gutters for 6 years.
I am married to Patricia and we have two children Gregory and Kerrie. Both are married and Greg lives in Cairns and Kerrie lives in Singapore, circumstances and opportunity have moved both of our children to holiday locations for us to visit.
I have been involved on our local Sussex Inlet Veteran Golf Club committee for about 5 years as Secretary or Treasurer. Our Golf Club has about 45 men and 25 lady veteran playing members, we play on an 11 hole course and Tuesday is our Veteran competition day.
I ENJOY my golf, and Patricia and I attend a few week of golf tournaments around NSW as much as we can. But we have an obligation to our local club and play “at home” at least twice a week. Pat and I are average golfers, I play off 17 and Pat plays off 25, but we enjoy our golf and all that comes with it, that means the new people we meet and the friends we re-meet.
It is an honour to be part of the committee administrating veteran golf in NSW and I look forward to being a part of this for many years to come. I hope I can bring my accounting and commercial experience to the Association and assist in its progress. I also look forward to taking your ideas and comments to our committee, please feel free to contact me or any other councillor as the need arises.
