Deniliquin Week Of Golf – Results

Posted on: 10 December

Held at: Deniliquin – from 11 Oct to 15 Oct 21 – Tournament Director: Margaret Radeski

Well, we all thought 2020 was a difficult year however 2021 proved even more challenging. With our commitment to the VWOG we continued planning throughout the year with the knowledge that the situation may have changed at any given time. With the lockdowns that were current, travelling was no longer an option and we found that entries stopped six weeks prior to the week and we had a lot of cancellations. We refunded well over sixty players with twenty people retaining their entry for 2022.

With COVID restrictions in place and reduced fields the week went ahead successfully.

Thank you to the 35 visitors who were able to travel to our event. They travelled from Cootamundra, Hay, Howlong, Kerang, Lake Boga, Leeton, Murray Downs, Nambucca Heads, Rich River, Sussex Inlet, Tathra, Tocumwal and Yamba. We encouraged our local members to enter the event in our endeavour to boost field numbers. With the drastically reduced numbers in the fields we found we had to modify conditions. Our annual raffle has been extended to encourage more ticket sales and the prize money and grading of the competition had to be revised.

Over the week we saw a total of 230 rounds played. Monday’s 4B event attracted 78 players, Tuesday 52, Thursday 64 and Friday was our smallest field with a total of 36 players. On Thursday night we held the presentation dinner with 30 guests. Whilst this number was very disappointing the committee felt it was important to still hold the event and we all enjoyed the evening.. Friday’s play was followed by a presentation of the day’s event and the important NSWVGA trophy. We were pleased to see a lot of the players remained in the clubhouse for this.

Thanks to Kathy Simpson and the kitchen staff for catering during the week, also to Terry Howe, his staff and numerous volunteers who always present our course in such great condition each week. Such events are not run successfully without a lot of help. A huge thank you to the VWOG Committee John Radeski, Norm Purtill , Ann Bull , Dick and Esther Bolton for all the work they did. The Deniliquin Golf Club has a large volunteer group who are always at the ready to assist in anyway they can and we can not thank them enough. We look forward to the 2022 VWOG and the return some form of normality.

Good golfing, Margaret Radeski
