Uralla Veteran Golfers 2022 Week of Golf

Posted on: 17 May

Uralla Week of Golf Report
Dates: 25th April – 29th April 2022
Venue: Uralla Golf Club
Tournament Director: Rowan Chandler
Weather: Cooler weather with sunshine prevailed.
The Week
On Sunday a “Meet and Greet” and BBQ were held to welcome both travelling and local veteran golfers. TD Rowan (Chalkie) outlined the upcoming week’s events, and it was this first contact with the players that set a great tone of the week.
The weeks numbers were down due to the flooding up north, illness and of course the dreaded Covid but still the numbers were in the mid 90’s.
Each day was a shotgun start and players were kept in suspense as to their playing partners and their tee allocation. The committee were aware of the mixture of carts and walkers with carts being sent to the furthurest tees and walkers to the closest tees to the clubhouse.
Uralla course was in excellent condition. The green keeper and and his veteran helpers who volunteered their time are to be congratulated on its presentation.
TD Rowan and his committee presented a week that all those in attendance appreciated. Rowan continually outlined who had sponsored the week, thanking them and having the major sponsor, New England Solar Farms, represented by Tim Greenaway, at the presentation afternoon and he presented the major trophies.

All in all, a great week and it is expected that numbers will increase next year by word of mouth from the visitors and promotion by Uralla Vets.
They welcomed players from far and wide for their veteran’s week of golf which started on Monday with an Irish 4BBB and the winners were Les “I’m in a hurry” Forde, Tim Bower, Bruce McMullen and Graeme Hunt with 87 pts. Tuesday and Thursday was the 2 day event stableford and the overall Men’s winner was Jim Walkinshaw from Uralla and Ladies winner was Bev Bransdon from Russell Vale Golf Club. We had encouragement awards at the end of the 2 days and I do believe on the 2nd day this award was given to the Captain Jon Izzard.
Congratulations to all the daily winners and the players who were runners up. Too many to mention over 4 days of golf, thank you to all visitors and locals who participated in the week of golf. We had over 90 players each day. Also a huge thank you to all the vets committee and volunteers who helped out on the days, without your support it would have been impossible to manage.
