\nThe 150 players and partners had a great time for their week in Port Stephens, and they were glowing on their praise of the golf courses, Pacific Dunes, Horizons, Nelson Bay and Horizons. Of particular note were Jenny Helg and Shelley Brockliss, plus a number of competitors from Vic and Qld. In fact, Jenny Helg was the Ladies Champion overall<\/p>\n

A HUGE programme of events has been organised for visiting veteran golfers this year.<\/p>\n

The week of golf known as the Port Stephens Accommodations Week of Golf 2023 is an annual event for female and male golfers aged over 55 years of age and is so popular it was fully booked out this year six months in advance.<\/p>\n

The event runs from Sunday 29 October to Friday 3 November across four local golf courses \u2013 Pacific Dunes, Horizons, Nelson Bay and Tanilba Bay.<\/p>\n

It draws golfers from New Zealand, Queensland, Victoria and all over NSW and is nearly an even split with 72 men and 78 ladies in the field.<\/p>\n

It also provides a boost for local traders and accommodation providers, hence this year Port Stephens Accommodation has come on board as the new naming rights sponsor.<\/p>\n

Play for the week kicks off at Pacific Dunes at Medowie on the Monday followed by Horizons in Salamander Bay on Tuesday, Nelson Bay on Thursday and Tanilba Bay on the Friday.<\/p>\n

Wednesday is a free day while there is a Presentation Dinner at Nelson Bay Golf Club on the Thursday evening with entertainment.<\/p>\n

PORT STEPHENS ACCOMMODATION WEEK OF GOLF <\/strong><\/span>2023.<\/strong><\/span>
\nA capacity field of over 140 golfers each day enjoyed fine weather all week except for one ten minute rain shower on the Thursday morning at Nelson Bay which did nothing to dampen the players enthusiasm. Players came from as far north as Noosa and south as far as Lang Lang in Victoria as well as 2 ladies returning for a second year from New Zealand.
\nDay1, Monday morning<\/strong> saw 77 ladies and 72 men across three divisions tee off on what turned out to be a very hot day and the scoring matched the temperature, one of our New Zealand ladies Jenny Helg led the way with a fine 43pts while on the Men\u2019s side Bob Bowen from Mollymook led out with a fine 41pts after a 3 under par 68 on the tough Pacific Dunes layout, other good scores on day one came from Helen Kirk from Belmont with 38pts and husband Terry Kirk recorded 37pts to be in second spot after day 1.
\nDay 2, at Horizons Resort threatened to be hotter than the first day but a southerly change hit the course mid morning to make playing conditions ideal, local member Graeme Latta led by example on day 2 with a fine 38pts followed by Graeme Caffyn from Noosa and Terry Jackson from Terry Hills with 37pts each, while on the ladies side three ladies recorded 38pts, Wendy Latta matched her husband\u2019s effort with 38pts as well as Anne McClintock from Kogarah GC and Michele Campion from Kiama added to her 37pts from the previous day with a 38pts to catch New Zealand lady Jenny Helg in the race for the 54 hole winner\u2019s trophy.
\nAfter day 2<\/strong> on the Men\u2019s side the leading scores were John Jokantas from Wauchope on 72pts followed by Bob Bowen from Mollymook and Terry Jackson from Terry Hills on 70pts, while in the ladies field Michele Campion (Kiama) and Jenny Helg (Whitford CC, NZ) were tied on 75pts with Wendy Latta (Nelson Bay) next on 73pts.
\nDay 3 at Nelson Bay<\/strong> saw Mollymook lady Veronica Johnston record the best score of the day among the ladies with 39pts closely followed by another Mollymook lady Pip Ellis with37pts and Jenny Helg among a host of other players on 36pts, while on the men\u2019s side local golfer Garry Jones scored a fine 40pts followed by David Christensen (Kew) and Graeme Boyd ( Ocean Shores) with 37pts.
\nThursday night Presentation Dinner<\/strong> and newly appointed Promotions Officer Dave Flatt and Tournament Director Gary Watt both thanked Port Stephens Accommodation for their commitment to be Naming Rights Sponsor for this year and next and 7 th Street Caravans for their continued support over the last few years and how their financial assistance is so important to the tournaments continued success. \nWith only the 4 major awards left to be presented Craig Greatorex from Port Stephens Accommodation drew the 1 st prize for the week long raffle which was a $500:00 voucher for accommodation generously donated by Port Stephens Accommodation and this year it was won by Bryan Mullan from Muirfield GC in Sydney.<\/p>\n

\nCraig Greatorex then presented the Winners and Runners Ups.
\nMen\u2019s <\/strong>
\nWinner<\/strong> was Terry Jackson from Terry Hills in Sydney with a score of 104 points
\nThe Runner up<\/strong> in the men was David Christensen from Kew with a score of 102 points on countback.
\nLadies <\/strong>
\nWinner<\/strong> was Jenny Helg from Whitford CC (NZ) with a score of 111 points.
\nThe Ladies Runner Up<\/strong> was Debbie Lees from Mollymook with a score of 107 points.<\/p>\n

Both winners were presented with brand new Shields once again donated by Port Stephens Accommodation to be played for every year. Jenny has become the events first international winner of our tournament in its 30 year history.
\nAfter 3 days of tournament golf and a relaxing Presentation Dinner with 132 people present a slightly more low key field of 95 players faced the starter at Tanilba Bay GC on the Friday where a Medley stableford was played. The winners on the day were;
\nLadies; <\/strong>
\n1 st Place<\/strong> went to local lady Christine Osborne with 38 points,
\n2 nd Place<\/strong> went to Wendy Bellamy also on 37 points on countback,
\n3 rd Place<\/strong> was Jennifer Dignam from Emerald Downs with 37 points,
\nMen;<\/strong>
\n1 st Place<\/strong> went to Garry Jones from Nelson Bay who carried on with his good form from the day before with a fine 37 points beating Bill on countback.
\n2 nd Place<\/strong> went to Christine\u2019s husband Bill Osborne with 37 points
\n3 rd Place<\/strong> went to another local Bob Guy with 35 points
\nIn summary<\/strong> this year everything went to plan, we had rain the weekend before and after our event and none albeit for one shower during the week, we had great conditioned courses and happy players, everything that makes for a great week and the committee of Port Stephens Vets wishes to thank all players for their participation and can\u2019t wait to do it all again next year.<\/p>\n
