This year was no exception with 205 nominations received although a couple of late withdrawals reduced the field to 200 players. 69 Clubs were represented.
The Registration/Welcome Function was held at the club on a cold, wet and windy afternoon with only 12 players not attending. The event was extremely well run with the committee assisting the NSWVGA Rep in identifying the 80 non-financial players and directing them to the appropriate table to confirm and or complete payment of NSWVGA affiliation fees.
At the event the CTHGC Veterans President, and past Tournament Director, Grant Evans assured everyone that over the 20 plus years of the event that very few days had been lost to rain, and indicating he was hopeful this year would not affect that record. This proved to be the case with only 20 minutes or so of showers across the Friday morning and afternoon.
Freshly minted Tournament Director, Garry (Tugga) Waugh welcomed players and outlined local rules, confirmed to order of events on the program, arrangements for collecting golf carts and the fact that a starter would be present at the nominated starting tee with participants cards should they elect not to use the MiScore app.
Hot finger food was provided in a self-serve style from a Bain Marie setup. The food was plentiful, and function was well received by participants.
NSWVGA Shield event was held on the Monday on the West course.
Ladies Shield Winner was Sari McDonald with 37 pts,

Scrollable

Ladies Runner up was Jan Alborough 31 Points.
Men’s Shield winner Terry Smith with 43 Points

Scrollable

with Runner up Geoff Whellum 36 points.
Daily Monday Results were
Ladies Div 1 Winner Lynette McMurray,
Runner up Gabriella Catanzariti;
Div 2 Winner Lynette Bates,
Runner up Jo Stephens;
Div 3 Winner Annette Donaldson,
Runner up Yvonne Burnett
Daily Monday Results
Men’s Div1 Winner Allan Holley,
Runner up Peter Roth;
Div 2 Winner Garry Stafford,
Runner up Paul McTackett,
Div 3 Winner Brett Corby,
Runner Up David Farrar.
Tuesday and Thursday comprised the
36 Hole Coolangatta Tweed Trophy event.
Ladies Winner Sylvia Pham,
Runner Up Elizabeth Sinclair.
Men’s Winner Anthony Winter,
Runner up Barry Attwood.
Daily Tuesday results 18 Hole
Div 1 Ladies Winner Vicki Bray,
Runner up Gail Murden;
Div 2 Winner Carolyn Buttsworth,
Runner up Sandra Gonzalez;
Div 3 Winner Stephanie McKay,
Runner up Pamela McKellar.
Men’s Div 1 Winner Anthony Southward,
Runner Up Garry McKenzie;
Div 2 Winner Don McKinnon,
Runner up Paul Gifford,
Div 3 Winner Stephen Turner,
Runner up Garry Chapple.
Daily Thursday Results 18 Hole
Div 1 Ladies Winner Karen Haynes,
Runner up Wendy Thompson;
Div 2 Winner Elizabeth Lloyd-James,
Runner up Pamela Messenger; Div 3 Winner Geraldine Turner, Runner up Bronwen Harvey.
Men’s Div 1 Winner Garry Luland,
Runner Up Barry McDonald;
Div 2 Winner Anthony Tan,
Runner up, Nigel Eves
Div 3 Winner Samuel Knox,
Runner up Joe Zancolich.
I do not propose to list all Nearest the Pin winners but one of note was a Hole in One on the 10th Hole on the River Course on Tuesday by Don McKinnon. Don was very accurate with his short irons on the day as he was 2 inches off a repeat on the 3rd Hole on the same day.
Throughout the week a veritable army of spotters and Bunker attendants supported players.
Thursday evening presentation well patronised with just over 180 attendees. Garry Waugh has ideal personality for Tournament Director role and kept crowd engaged whilst keeping the presentation from getting bogged down. As can be seen an extensive list of winners on the night. Meal consisted of Alternate drop Chicken and Beef, both tender and moist. Dessert was alternative drop Pecan Pie and Cheesecake. Generous helpings, excellent quality and served in a timely and efficient manner.
