NAMBUCCA HEADS ISLAND GOLF CLUB – VETERANS WEEK OF GOLF
\nSponsored by FORESHORE CARAVAN PARK
\nMONDAY 25TH TO Friday 29th AUGUST 2025
\nWe welcomed 140 veteran golfers travelling from as far as Bargara Qld in the North, Leongatha Vic in the South and Manilla in the West to our annual week of golf. With unseasonal wet weather events in the weeks prior, it was \u201ctouch & go\u201d if the course was going to be playable for the Tournament to proceed \u2013 thankfully, Mother Nature gave our travelling Vets a break, many having to stay a week at Sawtell, following postponement of the scheduled event there.
\nMonday\u2019s event was a Medley Irish Team Stableford won by John Peat (Yamba), Marion Coy, Ron Peat & Louise Cole (Sanctuary Cove) with 82 points. Runners up were Sue & John Miller (Pacific Dunes) & Jo Gaddes (Mereweather) & Christpher Raines (Shortland Waters).
\nTuesday was the start of the Men & Ladies 2 day Stableford event on Tuesday & Thursday for the NSWVGA Shield and the Ian Vidler Memorial Trophy in conjunction. Some players were woken in the wee small hours of Tuesday morning with the sound on unwanted 9mm of heavy rain on rooftops, so reluctantly, we had to insist that Golf Carts stay on pathways. By Thursday, the sun was shining, and it was a totally different course. The field was full of compliments for the great work performed by our small team of Green staff \u2013 Greg, Clint & Angus.
\nFriday\u2019s event was a Medley Canadian Foursome won by Gary & Karen Turner (Manilla) with 66.75 on countback from Steven James & Elizabeth Lloyd-James from Kew & Port Macquarie.
\nRussell Williams played the shot of the Tournament, scoring a Hole-in-One on the 123-meter 13th Hole \u2013 unfortunately, Russell admitted to an error of judgement when he launched his drive on the 14th Hole hard left, heading towards Nambucca Plaza, and his 13th \u201clucky ball\u201d was never to be seen again!<\/p>\n
