Griffith Grassroots Competition Day

The Griffith Veteran Golfer’s Association (GVGA) held its Grassroots Competition Day on Thursday 20th August at the Griffith Golf Club with the course in magnificent winter condition.
Despite the challenging cold and windy conditions, a field of 39 men and women veteran golfers competed for the generous prize vouchers donated by the NSW Veteran Golfers Association as part of their “Grassroots” sponsorship to support the many veteran golfers who don’t compete in major veteran golfer’s tournaments or veterans Week of Golf tournaments.
The Grassroots Competition Day event was a 2BBB Aggregate with the normal veteran’s competition (a single stableford event) run in conjunction. GVGA has been actively encouraging woman veteran golfers to participate in our weekly Thursday competitions and in line with this, GVGA offered additional prize vouchers equivalent to the Grassroots vouchers as prize money for any women competing successfully who were not members of the NSWVGA.
The scoresheets below show that the best aggregate score in the Grassroots Competition was recorded by 2 lady veteran golfers – Elizabeth Graham and Lyn Hedditch – and they were each awarded $25 prize vouchers donated by GVGA. The second and third place-getter pairs – Craig McIver and Robert Gilbert; Gordon Druitt and Lindsay Martyn, all members of NSWVGA, were each awarded $25 NSWVGA Grassroots Vouchers.
The single stableford event had its own prize pool and the scoresheet shows a high percentage of players received a share of the prizes on offer.

Overall, our Grassroots Competition Day was a great success. The Griffith Veteran Golfer’s Association sincerely thanks the NSW Veteran Golfer’s Association for sponsoring our regional golf competition for grassroots members.
