“Proceeds from a book launched in Deniliquin on Sunday will benefit research into Motor Neurone Disease.

The book was written by poet Noel Hayes with cartoons by Deniliquin’s Alan Lord and former local resident John Jansen. It was published locally by Garry Baker.

‘Grandmas, Grandpas and Birdies’ is dedicated to veteran golfers across Australia, and its launch took place at registration day for the Deniliquin Golf Club’s Veteran’s Week of Golf.

The official launch was conducted by president of the NSW Veteran Golfers Association Ian Vidler.

Noel Hayes has written more than 10 books and generously donates all profits to a charity or specific cause. When compiling his book about veteran golfers he asked Vidler to write the foreword and decide which charity should benefit.

As well known veteran golfer and Jerilderie resident Ian Sneddon had passed away from MND last year, Vidler nominated research into the disease as the preferred recipient of book sale funds.

Ian Sneddon’s wife Robyne travelled to Deniliquin for the launch and was presented with a framed photograph and tribute poem to her late husband.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, Hayes was unable to attend the launch.
