Greg Christie – Certificate of Appreciation
Posted on: 10 December
Greg Christie has been a member of Port Macquarie Veterans since 2001. He was elected Secretary in 2006, a position he held for 5 years until he took on the role of President, a position he held for a further 10 years.
During those years Greg’s, greatest accomplishment was, with the assistance of Neil Beecroft and Jim Middleton, to oversee the Australian Veteran Golfers Union championships in 2010, played at Port Macquarie, Kew and Wauchope Golf Clubs, as Tournament Director. This event was the first to adopt shot gun starts, controversial at the time, which became the norm for following championships. The event was supported by almost 600 players and hosted 750 guests at the championship dinner. Surely the largest gathering of veteran golfers and partners for many a year.
On retirement from the position of President of Port Macquarie Veterans Club, Greg was honoured with Life Membership, only the second member to achieve this prestigious status.
In addition to his roles within the veterans’ club he spent many years as Group Secretary of Group 12 within the NSWVGA administration from which he recently retired after almost 20 years of service to veterans’ golf.
Greg is thoroughly deserving of the Certificate of Appreciation presented to him by NSWVGA Executive Council in recognition of his exemplary service to veterans’ golf in NSW. The Council congratulates him on his endeavours and wishes him good golfing in his retirement.
