Date: 01 – 05 August 2022
Location: Murwillumbah Golf Club
Weather: Fine all week
Tournament Director: Ray Kent
NSWVGA Councillor: Jim Shadlow
Played under Covid-Safe Guidelines

After three floods since March and the latest one being early June, the Course was in excellent condition. The Murwillumbah Pro-Am was played the week before so the Greens were at their best. Our Greens Staff, headed by Green Superintendent Brian Cox, did a marvellous job in preparing the Course after all the adversity.

For the week, Golf was played under the Local Rules – Preferred Lie, One Card Length Through the Green, with Bare Patches on the Fairway Only, having Nearest Point of Relief.

Nominations were received from the On-Line Entry on our Website, with Draws and Results posted there as well (www.murwillumbahveteransgolf.com). If anyone had difficulty with the On-Line Registration, help was only a Phone Call away. Participants were also given the opportunity to join NSWVGA, if not already, by paying $5.00 on Entry Form or at the Registration Desk on Sunday.

Registration was held on Sunday, at which a large percentage of participants checked in and received their Registration Pack which included a Name Tag with their Daily Tee Time on it, complimentary pens and an informative Newsletter about the Course, the Program, Wet Weather Policy, Coloured Flags and Distance Markers, and the included Vouchers.

Due to uncertainty with weather, rising Travel and Accommodation costs and Covid, numbers were down on previous years. This meant that the Week was played with a One-Tee Timed Start and a Shotgun Start on Friday’s American Foursome Event. Covid did reduce our Field as on participant testing positive on Monday evening, meaning he and his wife had to withdraw and isolate

With a new Kitchen open 7 days, all foods had to be purchased from the Caterer. To compensate for not having our usual BBQ Sausages on offer at the First Tee, two $5.00 Vouchers were given to each participant to redeem at the Kitchen or Golf Shop. This worked well.

The regular Pick-Up-a-Banana or two was available each day at the 1st and 10th Tee. The Bananas were locally grown and thoroughly enjoyed by participants.

A Hole-In-One was achieved on Thursday by Mike Maybe (Shelly Beach) on the Par 3 Hole 2 … Congratulations

An alternate drop of three meals was prepared for the Presentation Dinner on Thursday Evening. This was followed by a short Presentation of the Week’s recipients of prizes in each Division, and the Hole-In-One, culminating in the Presentation of the NSWVGA Ladies’ and Men’s Shields by Councillor Jim Shadlow.
