LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOR IAN VIDLER

Penny Hudson Executive Member of NSWVGA made the following speech at the Nambucca Heads 2023 Week of Golf.
“On behalf of NSW Veteran Golfers Association, I would like to welcome Lyn Vidler, her children Tony, Mike, Kirsty and grandchildren Fletcher, Maeve and Blair, special guests, and fellow golfers.
Could I ask you to put your hand up if you knew Ian Vidler. Thank You.
Ian Vidler was the face of NSWVGA for a great number of years.
Ian and his wife Lyn travelled and participated in many Weeks of Golf throughout the State and beyond.
Ian was an excellent golfer, a champion at the sport many times. For Ian the social side was just as important. As a representative of NSWVGA Ian would visit the caravan parks to MEET and GREET travelling golfers to ensure they felt welcomed and comfortable. Ian and Lyn would often turn up at happy hours to enjoy new and old company.
Last Sunday Lyn came to deliver something to the caravan park where I was staying and before she left Lyn was visiting golfers as Ian did…. but Lyn didn’t take half the day.
Ian was very supportive of Lady golfers becoming members of NSWVGA and today NSWVGA is gender neutral.
Last year before Ian passed away, he had been informed that he was to be awarded Life Membership of NSWVGA. A worthy recipient.

Today, Lyn, I would like to present you with the NSWVGA Life Membership Certificate.
Ian was one of a special kind, special to so many veteran golfers.
In Life as in Golf, Ian often said “Play the Ball as it Lies”. “
