2027 AVGU National Championships Venue Announced
It is the turn of NSW to host the Australian Veteran Golfers Championships for eligible men and women in the year 2027.
After all of the 30 Groups in NSW were contacted seeking interest in conducting this prestigious event, only one Group submitted a final expression of interest by the closing date of October 2nd 2023. At the most recent NSWVGA Executive Council, held on October 11th, it was formally announced that Illawarra Group 3 will host these Championships.
Preceding annual Championships will be conducted in Canberra (2023), South Australia (2024), Darwin (2025) and Queensland (2026).
It is anticipated that up to 600 veteran players and partners will visit the Illawarra and experience everything that this region has to offer. The Illawarra Veteran Golfers Association is indeed honoured to be selected to conduct this event.
The dates for the 2027 tournament are from Monday November 8th through to Friday November 12th with registration to take place on Sunday November 7th. Wednesday November 10th will be the rest day and give participants a chance to enjoy the great tourist facilities available in the Illawarra.
Venues as listed in the final application show that the courses to be used are The Grange and Kiama sharing the Monday Fourball, with Links Shell Cove, Port Kembla and Wollongong staging the three days of the championships for the respective grades.

One of the major hurdles to be cleared for this application was finding a venue for the presentation dinner with an expected attendance of 600+.

After considerable searching the venue selected is the main hangar of the HARS Aviation Museum at Albion Park Airport
managed by the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society. This venue could cater for up to 800+ patrons and will ideally suit the championship, providing players are not averse to sitting near the F111 and other planes which use that hangar. Registration on the Sunday is also planned for HARS, as is a meeting room for the AVGU AGM.
More details will appear by means of brochures, information sheets and website reports as time progresses.
The next major step is to seek a naming sponsor, and supporting sponsors, for this wonderful event for affiliated veteran golfers from right across Australia.
This NSWVGA website will keep you up to date with information as it develops.
