Spirits were high this morning despite the chill in the air, but a quick visit to Ken Amos and Co who were manning the Breakfast BBQ and coffee station certainly helped to warm things up.
Once again, our amazing maintenance team led by Course Superintendant Mr. Schalk Van Greunen were on-site well before the cockatoos and kookaburras started with their gaggle to ensure the course was at its stunning best.
Emigrating from South Africa, Mr. Van Greunen has only been on our shores for a matter of months, settling into his role and the “Aussie Lifestyle” with emphatic ease.

Registration was held on the Sunday. Draws were available for the week.
Weather. Beautiful clear days.
Player Numbers

The Moree committee went out of their way to welcome everybody to the week at the Sunday registration.
A BBQ was available every day with morning tea provided each day.
The week ran smoothly with the Pro Shop controlling the starting.

Moree golf course was presented in outstanding condition. I have been coming to this event since 2009 and it is the best I can remember. Well done to Scuul Van Hebren and his staff.

The presentation dinner on Thursday night was excellent. The numbers were around 120 .
Paul and his committee are to be congratulated on a very successful week which was enjoyed by all.
Day 1
Some superlative scores in both divisions were posted on day 1 with John Carlton leading the way in the Men’s Division after posting 40 stableford points.
John won’t be able to afford any slip up ups over the next two days as a strong contingent of players are hot on his heels, with 5 points separating the top 6 players.
In the Ladies Division it was a tighter affair with Carmel Parry and Helen Fletcher both scoring 39 stableford points, affording them a 2 point buffer over their nearest competitor.
Unlike the men, only 3 points seperate the top 6 ladies, so hang onto your hats people, we’re in for a Showdown!!
With the course drying out after the weekends rainfall, scoring on Day 2 of Moree VETS WEEK remained extremely competitive.
Moree’s own Mr. David “Cleaner” Moore swept to the top of the pile in the Mens Division with a well polished 39 stableford points.
Keeping the local flavour flowing in the Ladies Division and replicating David’s score was Tammy Townsend, who credited the flawless putting surfaces to her change of fortune.
Some 59 golf clubs from all over the state and beyond have been represented this year, which is testament to not only the quality of the golf course, but also our unheralded group of amazing volunteers.
Our volunteers are our mouthpiece, and tirelessly provide their time and energy to ensure our visitor experience is one of pleasure and positives.
A big shout out to Elders Moree who have once again embraced the event with their generosity in sponsoring a hole in 1 prize on the 1st and 7th holes to the tune of $10,000.
With a well deserved rest day today, the VETS will be back to do it all again tomorrow, with the morning field teeing off from 7am.
A pleasant day is headed our way again tomorrow, with a top of 24 degrees and mostly sunny, winds will be out of the East in the morning then swing slightly to the South in the afternoon.
