Registration: A sausage sizzle was enjoyed by everybody who joined us to register on Sunday the 14 July. It was a good afternoon to say hello again and to welcome new members to our week of golf. Once again, we were treated with our local Piper, Alistair Smith giving us a warm welcome with his Scottish tunes on his bagpipes. Mark Hemmy welcomed everybody, mentioned a few housekeeping rules and taking the credit for organising clear weather.
Player Numbers: We had 77 males and 44 females registered to play. 64 Clubs were represented. Men were in 3 grades and women in 2 grades. No locals played in this event.
Hospitality: Morning tea was provided every morning, the fruit cake was very popular, and mandarins were available courtesy of Mark Stowers and Bob Harvey. For lunch, a freshly made sandwich or a sausage sizzle were provided and was also popular. On Friday, Presentation lunch was held at the Maclean Bowling Club. A large roast meal, either chicken or lamb was enjoyed by all. Marlene and Graham Roberts joined us for lunch, and it was great to see their smiling faces and here their laughter as they caught up with the regulars that they have known for years.
The weather was kind to us, a little cool in the mornings and quite windy, especially Tuesday the 16th, but no rain, which everybody mentioned that they are so over.
Raffles were held everyday with prizes being, gift cards, wine hampers and vouchers from our local fish co-op and hotel.
More and more players are requiring carts these days, so a big thank you to all the members who supplied theirs, as we have limited number of club carts. We did not have to say no to anyone who requested a seat in a cart.
Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted Mark and Kate during the week and in the preparation and clean up. Geoff Grayson, previous Tournament Director, valuable help and advice was extremely appreciated. Thank you to Maclean’s Veterans Committee, the Cooks, the Spotters, the Parking Attendees, the Golf Cart Organisers, the Starters and the Helpers upstairs making the week run smoothly. Thank you to the Ground Staff for presenting the course in magnificent condition, the Pro Shop and Bar Staff and to all our Sponsors for their generosity.
