This tournament was conducted by GolfNSW with the NSWVGA Men’s Individual Sandgreen Championship held in conjunction.
This event was fully subscribed with 134 players participating from 45 clubs across the state. There were Vets from over 30 clubs represented. Due to the high entry rate, it was necessary for the GolfNSW TD to have 2 daily shotgun starts, with a seeded draw on Sunday afternoon for the leading scorers.
The 58 males over 55years made up over 40% of the full field of 134, however several of these participants had to renew their expired NSWVGA membership at Registration to be eligible to win our trophies.
The rego was efficiently carried out by the team from GolfNSW with all players receiving their daily draw via email in advance along with conditions of play and other relevant tournament and accommodation information. Scoring was, in the main, completed via a scoring app which enabled a rapid finalisation of events and a smooth presentation schedule.
The warm Spring weather in the high 20’s meant playing conditions were ideal. The course was in excellent condition reflecting the many hours staff and volunteers toiled to give visitors the best opportunity to perform well. The sand greens were consistent with even sand distribution, whilst the surrounds and fairways were exceptional in their preparation.
A very capable team of caterers from the Nyngan GC provided breakfast, lunch and dinner over three days for those who needed refuelling. Bar trade was always brisk after each session of play! The Nyngan club had recently completed a new outdoor shade area which was very popular and fully utilised by the many players and friends. Saturday evening was well patronised with musical entertainment provided for the many locals and visitors in attendance.
It was evident from the large number of visiting club members and the long distances they travelled that these sandgreen events are very popular with those players attending, thus giving them an opportunity to renew old friendships or create new ones.
