Murwillumbah Veteran’s Week of Golf
The end of July saw the Murwillumbah Veterans run the annual NSWVGA Week of Golf. Following what seemed like months of wet weather, we were blessed with a week of beautiful winter weather, perfect for golf.
This year we had 128 players from 54 Clubs, including 57 ladies and 71 men join us from as far afield as St Helens in Tasmania and Heidelburg in South Australia.
The event, run over four days, included a team game (best 3 of 4) on Monday and Stableford matches the rest of the week. Due to the potential of inclement weather, this year’s NSWVGA Shield was an 18-hole event held on Thursday.
The NSWVGA Shields were won by Tereza Holley from Noosa Springs GC (41pts) and Peter Martin from Gosford GC (40pts).

The Ladies second and third places went to Elizabeth Llyod-James from Port Macquarie GC (40pts) and Geraldine Turner from Gosford GC (39pts), respectively and for the Men, David Shearer from Magenta Shores GC (39pts) and Sam Ball from Gailes GC (37pts).
On hand to congratulate the winners and present the Awards was NSWVGA Councillor Catherine Pautsch who on the 8th hole trickled her ball up to the pin, bounced off to a couple of inches, just missing out on the $1000 Hole-in-One Challenge sponsored by Elders Real Estate. Better luck next time.
Special thanks go to the club, pro shop and greens staff as well as the volunteers and sponsors without whom we could not run such a successful event.
Cheers until next year, Ian Yarroll Tournament Director.
