Glen Innes conducted its 5th annual week of golf during the week of 6th to 10th April.  Week of Golf is a NSW Veteran Golf Association initiative played since 1980 and now in over 50 locations from February to December each year.

The event was played over 4 days with over 100 visitors playing each day from 30 different Golf Clubs throughout NSW and Queensland.  Numbers were understandably down from 2025 with less visitors travelling.

Friday saw the conclusion of the week with a 2 person Ambrose, with a field of 50 teams playing.  Winning team was the combination of Gordon Newton and Sharon Carberry from the Ballina Club with a score of 63.  In second place was the team of Janet Guy and Dennis Brown from Ryde/Parramatta and Glen Innes clubs. with a score of 65.75.  Next best locals were Phil Evans and Dean Gillett with 64.75.

A big thank you for our key sponsors, the Glen Innes Services Club and NSW Veteran Golf Association.  Also raffle prizes from our local golfers who donated meal vouchers to the Central Hotel, Stones Restaurant and the Yim Thai at the New England Club. The Glen Innes lady golfers also put in a huge effort providing morning tea for over 100 people on each of the 4 days.

Also, a big thank you to the green keepers Zac Willis and Lucas Tait who started at 3am each morning to have the course looking great.  Many visitors are surprised at the quality and condition of the course for a town our size so a real credit to the green keeping and Golf Club staff.

Thanks to Glen Innes Golf Club staff Damien Boylan and Noah Every for keeping the week flowing and our hard-working secretary Allan Collins and Glen Innes Golf Club Captain Phil Evans and his team for organising about 30 golf carts each day.

Finally, we were very thankful to our visitors for making the effort to attend our week of Golf.  Many of the visitors were very complimentary of the event with many commenting they will be back next year.  The event is very positive for the local economy and is a credit to the small but hard-working Veterans Golf committee.
