Forbes 2022 Week of Golf

Forbes Week of Golf
Dates: 25 – 29th April 2022
Venue: Forbes Golf Club
Tournament Directors: Beryl & Lynnie Roberts
Weather: Mild and cloudy with Temps in mid 20’s. (45ml rain overnight Wednesday evening, however, play with carts still possible on Thursday.
Numbers: Greatly affected by Covid with player numbers dropping from around 110 in weeks leading up to play down to 75 – 90 during the week. Around 15 clubs were represented.
The Course: Heavy conditions, with preferred lies “through the green” all week. Green staff had the course in excellent condition with greens running true and at good speed.
The Week: As usual the Forbes committee under the direction of Beryl Roberts put on another great tournament. A registration “meet and greet” with a sausage sizzle opened the week on Sunday – with a reminder to all that membership of NSWVGA is now compulsory for this and all NSWVGA events!
Tea/coffee and slices etc preceded morning shotgun starts from Tuesday to Friday with well-priced BBQ lunches available each day.
Presentation Dinner on Thursday evening was well attended with the Monday 4BBB winners, and the 36-hole winners presented with their trophies.
The event was again well supported by local sponsors.
On-site camping was available to the caravaners, which was a great cost saving for travellers.

Conclusion: The Forbes WOG is the NSWVGA’s longest running week of golf and for most of this time Beryl & Lynnie Roberts have been at the helm. Lynnie had a knee replacement in the week leading up to play and was homebound with Beryl back and forwards checking on his needs. However, with an excellent supporting committee it was smooth sailing all week and another wonderful tournament. (Past VP Richard Doyle celebrated his 80th birthday during the week and was joined by his family for surprise celebrations).
