On Monday October 30th the seventh and final round of the 2023 Trevor Bell Memorial Shield was held at the Grange Golf Club in fine, warm conditions.
As can be seen from the final scores Port Kembla were victorious by the slender margin of 3 points over Jamberoo, who actually led until the very last player from Port Kembla came in with 39 points. Each of the seven clubs provide eight players for each round with the six best scores counting for the team total each time.
The shield is named in honour of the late Trevor Bell, a long-time member of the Grange, because of his input to veteran golf administration both at Group and NSWVGA level.
Trevor was a NSWVGA State Councillor from 2003 to 2008, then took aver the position of Secretary of the state body from 2009 to 2012. He was the recipient of the NSWVGA Meritorious Service Award in 2011.
Within the structure of the Illawarra VGA (Group 3) Trevor served as the Group Secretary from 2002 to 2010, during which time he also committed to the role of Tournament Director of the Illawarra Week of Golf, which at that time attracted 200+ starters each year. He also served as President of the IVGA from 2011 to 2012.
