The final NSWVGA Week of Golf for 2023 unfortunately finished a day early due to the flooding of Jamberoo golf course caused by torrential rain on the Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Over 100mm of rain fell in that period and Jamberoo officials had no option but to close the course Wednesday morning when the rive,r and the main creek through the course, both broke their banks resulting in considerable rubbish on the course as well as flooding. The programmed shot gun start on the Friday could not be played and players registered for that event will receive a refund through bank accounts.

The week which began at Jamberoo on Monday, featured three single stableford rounds on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with the latter two at Kiama. The Kiama course handled the wet weather well because of its sand base and players were pleasantly surprised at the playing conditions on the Thursday.
A total of 139 players from 42 clubs registered prior to the event with not all players nominating for the four days. This was an increase from last year and the interesting aspect was that the gender split showed 73 men and 66 women. This tends to reflect strongly the number of women veteran golfers choosing to affiliate with the NSWVGA and play in the many weeks of golf in the extensive calendar of events presented each year.
The following results show the various winners who received their prizes and shields at the presentation at Kiama Golf Club on the Thursday evening. NSWVGA Secretary Aileen Williams was in attendance to speak to the gathering and present the major trophies.

The evening concluded with a thoroughly deserved recognition of the efforts of tournament director Bob Smith epitomised by speeches from Barry White (Kiama Vets President) and Lance Fredericks (Jamberoo Life Member). This was Bob’s final time as TD after 11 years at the helm. He should be very proud of the effort he has put into this event over many years and the positive reactions he has received from many competitors.
